Two Steps Back, Many Leaps Ahead

Grandma's delicious sweets,
Grandpa's hilarious one-liners,
A perfect way to spend a sweet summer afternoon,
With my grandparents,
Two steps back in family history,
Many leaps ahead with experience.

A comfy, rickety couch,
Upon which me and my grandpa sit,
Sharing stories of things that were,
And things that weren't,
Like a rule-book,
That's never going to be published,
So much to learn from him,
So many lessons,
Experience,
Gained.

The spicy, flavorful scent of my grandma's palace,
Her pride and joy,
The kitchen.
An un-recognized Julia Child,
Cooking together,
Talking together.
Spending time together,
Together.

Two amazing people,
Who care,
Teach us,
Help us through our troubles,
In sweet and generous ways,
There for us when our parents get a little too strict,
The family members,
Who give more than enough,

So many memories,
Times spent together,
So many morals I have learned,
Ask their house,
It will tell you,
of everything we have done,
as one; me and my heroes.
