One a pine, the Other an Oak

Two friends,
 Beside a lonely road,
One a pine,
The other an oak,
Together forever,
Tired and true,
Nothing could ever,
Separate these two,
But seasons can change,
 And trees can too.

Two trees,
Trunks apart,
Yet roots united,
Branches wave,
 in the wind,
telling secrets,
these two friends.

In the summer,
Feelings confided,
But when winter approaches,
Leaves divided.

Competition between the two,
A deciduous oak,
 Rather well off,
 its made to last,
an evergreen pine,
for which survival,
is no easy task,
one will make it,
 through the winter,
the other has no hope,
leaves can change their color,
friends just have to cope.

The oak is resilient,
Winter is no problem,
The pine is the one with an issue,
Tall and skinny,
Easy to defeat,
They could help each other,
They really could,
But this is no time for sacrifice,
It’s a time for victory.

Separated by nature,
Brought together by place,
Companions by choice,
Enemies by fate,
A friendship tested,
A friendship wounded,
For friendships are fragile things.

Every tree for itself,
The stakes are high,
No compromise,
Hardships cause changes,
Friends into foes,
Differences draw a line,
In between,
They are no longer together,
As it once seemed,
A friendship is broken,
Enemies are made,
And the test of survival,
Begins today.
