Like a hapless boat,
Sailing on a stormy sea,
like an expedition gone wrong,
like traipsing in an open plain,
no one,
nothing around,

lost,
like your homework on Monday morning,
like the car keys,
that seem to evaporate just when you need them,
like your cherished, beloved pet,
that left only its memory behind,

lost,
not knowing where to go,
what to do,
when you have a map, a guide,
but it's no use for the journey you are on,
your mind itself a mystery,
a hailstorm of confused thoughts,

four letters,
a plethora of meaning,
the feeling of going the wrong way,
the essence of failure, defeat
the very sense that a part of you is missing,
swiss cheese without the holes,
a puzzle without all the pieces,
lost.
